STAC Silicon Valley is thrilled to be a member of the Philippine Aid Network because it embodies a word that has been on top of my mind since our eight member board rolled up its sleeves in 2009 to make a difference in the Philippines through entrepreneurship. SYNERGY. Synergy is the interaction of multiple elements in a system to produce an effect different from or greater than the sum of their individual effects.
In 2009, many expressed that STAC SV’s efforts would fail because it would be alone in its mission to help create positive change in the country. Five successfully funded companies later, we proved to these naysayers wrong because we knew we were not alone. Through a collaborative partnership with other Filipino Americans, selfless Philippine government leaders, private sector companies, grassroots organizations and academe that shared the vision for the Philippines, we formed a community that was truly synergistic. With limited resources and big hearts, we came together setting aside personal or political agendas and focused on what could make a difference for a country and its people. We proved that every person involved contributed to reaching each milestone and the more people that came together, the more profound the impact.
Once again, we believe. Though Typhoon Haiyan produced devastating effects, it also delivered a unique opportunity for people of the Philippines and around the world to come together to create a profound positive effect. No matter the size or makeup of our contribution, we each have the ability to not only help the country recover but to rebuild itself into a greater nation through SYNERGISTIC efforts.
