Capiz Cannot Be Forgotten
A state of calamity has been declared in the whole province of Capiz after being battered by Super Typhoon Haiyan on November 9. Some 95 percent of homes in the town of Mambusao, in Capiz province, were severely damaged or destroyed by Haiyan. Almost all houses in the coastal town of Sapian, also in Capiz, were completely washed away; 90 percent of the town’s infrastructure was damaged.
Based on an aerial survey by the Philippine Air Force and the Philippine Army, the province has suffered a massive damage in infrastructure and agriculture.
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reports over 20,000 families affected or displaced by Yolanda from the towns of Panitan, Pres. Roxas, Sapi-an and Dao. Meanwhile this figure does not include those affected from the towns of Pana-ay, Pontevedra, Pilar, Maayon, Ivisan, Sigma, Mambusao, Dumaro, Dumalag, Jamindan, Tapaz and Cuartero.
